Feuilly: When Prague was at the height of its power, it was considered the underground magical epicenter of the world. Now, the city attracts both human and magical tourists, the former traveling for the city’s rich history and the latter seeking a place where the past meets the present and magic seems alive. It was in 16th century Prague the last large scale magical event happened, when Judah Loew ben Bzalel created a golem to defend the Prague ghetto from anti-semitic attacks.

Prague would not see another golem for centuries. It would take a special set of circumstances and dangerous experimentation from a secret resistance to rebuild the Jewish community’s knowledge of how to form a golem. Feuilly would become involved in this magic society entirely by accident. The child was left orphaned at age three and placed in the care of his rather grumpy great uncle, his last surviving relative living in Prague’s Jewish community. Growing up with his great uncle and the community elders meant Feuilly had a strange and secret education that covered the history of his people and specifically their magical legacy. Despite all of the magical knowledge the elders gathered over the years, none had managed to achieve anything significant, yet none possessed the talent for magic like Feuilly.

Along with his real name, Feuilly keeps the events that forced him to seek refuge in Paris secret. All anyone seems to know about him is that he is a hard worker, a model employee, and that his papers seem to check out. What they don’t know is that this unassuming young man was the first in centuries to create a golem. While his creations are still small and secretive in his small apartment, he is learning.

Anonymous asked:

is feuilly polish or does he just really love it?

saltylibra-deactivated20200606 answered:

Feuilly’s ethnicity isn’t specifically mentioned even though he’s definitely patriotically from France, so I suppose he could be Polish if you’d like him to; but, I don’t think that was Vic Hu’s intention by mentioning Poland in regards to Feuilly! It wouldn’t be Poland nowadays in a modern update, it’s not necessarily a cultural interest to him per say the way some people “fall in love” with other cultures: it’s simply because at the time the partitioning of Poland was the current event that best represented what Feuilly stood for, along with Italy, Greece, Hungary, and Romania.

He talks a lot about the partition of Poland because he’s passionate about outsourcing to focus on the whole world’s politics, whereas Enjolras and the rest of the amis are only focused on their own country, France: he uses the partitioning of Poland in particular as a warning that all political outrages were sourced in that one particular event, leading to things like Turkey’s civil violations on Greece and Austria’s on Venice, from what I gathered in the text. He basically talks about Polance incessantly because he’s warning them that if they don’t think about more than just their own country, it could be more than just their own monarchy that disrupts their livelihood and they shouldn’t be ignoring the suffering of those in other countries while they’re working for the liberation of the people, either. He means they should be attempting to use the knowledge of past issues in other countries to back up their solutions to their own problems, as well as looking forward to the liberation of all peoples. Unfortunately there wasn’t a term for this yet (a word which I’ve forgotten at the moment) and Feuilly was, while very loud about it, probably the only one of them who was looking so far ahead.

Ahhh, Feuilly…

A Spark of Self

kcrabb88

Summary: Enjolras has a falling out with his father. Combeferre and Courfeyrac, worried and noticing Enjolras is most certainly not himself (though he tries to hide it), enlist Feuilly’s help to set Enjolras back on the path that defines his spirit. Fits in my Les Hommes de la Misericorde verse but can easily be read alone.

(Note: In this verse, Enjolras’ parents names are Aubry and Flora, and his maternal grandmother’s name is Violet).

Combeferre and Courfeyrac were at a loss. Combeferre, of course, for all his teasing about Enjolras’ stubbornness, was nearly just as much so in his own way, and was not keen to admit he was at a loss.

“Enjolras is a dreadful pretender,” Courfeyrac whispers conspiratorially into Combeferre’s ear, so softly Combeferre scarcely hears. “He has that book open, he has paper out and pen in his hand, but his gaze his not focused on either activity. Surely he cannot think we don’t notice?”
